The new collection by BRO. begins with a childhood memory: embroidered doilies sent to the family by the artist’s aunt from prison, which adorned the living room tables for years. Revisited in light of personal experience, this memory has taken on new meaning, giving rise to a need to create something delicate, intimate, and beautiful in circumstances that feel confining, difficult, or emotionally unbearable. The act of stitching itself becomes a space for focus and temporary escape, a chance to exist differently for a while.The series reworks the language of decorative hand embroidery into intimate images of the body. The pieces retain the small scale of domestic decorative textiles and their associations with care, slowness, and the desire to bring beauty into everyday life. The dancing figures convey moments of emotional vulnerability rather than portraying specific people. Their bodies briefly break free from pressure, exhaustion, prescribed roles, and the constant demand for self-control. The imagery draws on dance clubs, street dance, and the uninhibited movements of children. Removed from their original settings, these scenes leave room for viewers to imagine stories of their own. A red silk line forms the basis of each embroidery, tracing the body’s subtle movement. In places, it is joined by fields of color in dense stitching or silk appliqué. Stitches on the reverse show through the handwoven Indian silk, while its edges are left deliberately frayed.
