Dance Inappropriately, Baby!

(2026 series)

A new textile series by BRO. that transforms decorative hand embroidery into intimate images of movement, emotional release, and temporary escape.

The collection draws on domestic doilies and napkins, and on a personal memory of pieces my aunt embroidered and sent home from prison. Embroidery becomes a way to focus, escape inward, and find a moment of freedom in difficult circumstances. The dancing figures capture bodies briefly breaking free from pressure, exhaustion, expectations, and self-control. A red silk line traces their movement across handwoven Indian silk. Shimmering threads and sharp neon details create tension within the decorative calm, while visible reverse stitching and fraying edges reveal the imperfect beauty of the handmade.
